Planet Chess Club (and the Star City Chess Club) is taking January off to sew up some loose ends and get organized. This is a bit of early "Spring Cleaning" in order to get ready to kick off 2017 with new tournaments and events. You may have noticed that there are no currently scheduled events but rest assured that they will return by February new and improved! Check back soon to keep abreast of the changes.

At this time Planet Chess and the Star City Chess club in Roanoke, VA are working together to schedule tournaments and educational opportunities for competitive scholastic players in the Roanoke Valley and beyond. The Saturday morning chess class for children will resume in February as well, but will be held every two weeks lieu of weekly. There is also discussion on holding an two invitational tournaments, one for scholastic players and an open tournament in which anyone can play.

Also stay tuned for the upcoming casual "Chess Around Town" events to encourage (introverted) chess players to get out and socialize and help to spread the love of this royal game. This is an opportunity to meet new people, have some fun, play chess, and perhaps help others to find their own interest in chess. Roanoke here we come!

As always ideas, comments and suggestions are welcome, and you can leave them via the contacts page.
